How the pokémon breeding iv calculator works

This Pokémon breeding IV calculator finds the exact chance that an egg has at least a target number of perfect 31 IVs under the modern inheritance model. Describe how many stat positions are perfect on both parents, perfect on exactly one parent, or perfect on neither. Then compare ordinary three-stat inheritance with Destiny Knot’s five inherited stats and optionally force one stat from the Power-item holder.

Without Destiny Knot, three distinct stat positions are selected from HP, Attack, Defense, Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed. Each selected position then takes the value from one randomly chosen parent. The other three positions roll independently from 0 through 31, giving each a 1 in 32 chance to be perfect. Destiny Knot changes the inherited total to five, leaving only one random position; it does not guarantee five perfect values.

The overlap inputs matter. If both parents have 31 in the same stat, inheriting that position is always perfect. If exactly one parent is perfect there, the selected position succeeds half the time. If neither is perfect, inheritance cannot make that position perfect, although a non-inherited random roll still can. Counts must total no more than six; any unused positions are treated as perfect on neither parent.

A stat-specific Power item forces its holder’s IV for that stat to be inherited and counts toward the total three or five inherited positions. Choose shared when both parents are perfect in that position, one-parent when the holder is the perfect parent, or neither when the forced IV is not perfect. If both parents hold different Power items, current mechanics select which forced stat applies; this calculator models one known forced item rather than averaging two unknown held-item outcomes.

Worked example

Suppose both parents are perfect in all six stats and Destiny Knot is held. Five selected positions are guaranteed perfect, while the remaining random position has a 1/32 chance to roll 31. The chance of at least five perfect IVs is therefore 100%, and the chance of all six is 1/32 = 3.125%. Destiny Knot improves inherited coverage but does not turn the sixth roll into an inherited value.

How to read the result

The percentage covers IV inheritance only. It does not include ability slot, nature inheritance, species, form, gender, shiny odds, egg moves, or hatch time. “At least” includes eggs that exceed the target. For a precise plan, describe shared stat positions rather than entering only each parent’s total number of perfect IVs, because different overlaps produce different odds.
