How the pokémon nature chart works

This Pokémon nature chart lists every nature and the non-HP stat it raises and lowers. The filter separates beneficial, hindering, and neutral choices, while the mini calculator starts from the stat you want to boost and returns the four matching natures. Nature changes the final Attack, Defense, Special Attack, Special Defense, or Speed value; it never changes HP. The table describes the main-series stat effect, not flavor text, mint naming, or contest preferences.

affected stat=unmodified stat×nature modifier,modifier{1.1 boosted, 0.9 lowered, 1.0 neutral}\text{affected stat} = \left\lfloor \text{unmodified stat} \times \text{nature modifier} \right\rfloor, \quad \text{modifier} \in \{ 1.1\ \text{boosted},\ 0.9\ \text{lowered},\ 1.0\ \text{neutral} \}
The symbols are defined in the surrounding method, and every input stays in the shareable URL.

Twenty natures form a five-by-five relationship among the five affected stats. A nature normally raises one stat by ten percent and lowers another by ten percent. Hardy, Docile, Serious, Bashful, and Quirky point both effects at the same stat internally, so their battle-stat changes cancel and they are shown as neutral. The visible chart uses plain stat names and retains the published nature names so a summary screen can be checked directly.

The game applies the nature modifier after the base stat, IV, EV, level, and +5 portion of the non-HP formula have already been floored. It then floors again. This is why multiplying a displayed neutral stat by 1.1 can occasionally differ from rebuilding the complete stat with a beneficial nature. A mint changes the statistical effect used in battle without changing the individual’s original nature label or every nature-linked property.

A recommended nature is a tradeoff, not an automatic best answer. Physical attackers often choose an Attack-boosting nature that lowers unused Special Attack; special attackers often do the reverse. Speed control, mixed offenses, defensive benchmarks, Trick Room, and moves that use the opposite attacking stat can make another pairing preferable. Use the stat calculator to test the exact rounded number at the intended level before finalizing training.

Worked example

A level 50 non-HP stat reaches 152 before nature. Adamant boosts Attack, so Attack becomes floor(152 × 1.1) = 167. If the same 152 is Special Attack, Adamant lowers it to floor(152 × 0.9) = 136. A Hardy nature leaves both at 152. Selecting Attack in the recommender returns Lonely, Brave, Adamant, and Naughty; the correct choice depends on which lowered stat the build can give up.

How to read the result

Read the boosted and lowered columns together. Two natures can raise the same target but produce meaningfully different builds because they sacrifice different stats. A dash means neutral rather than unknown. Nature does not modify damage directly: it first changes the relevant calculated battle stat, which can then be entered in the damage calculator.

Common questions

Which Pokémon natures boost Speed?
Timid, Hasty, Jolly, and Naive boost Speed; each lowers a different non-HP stat.
Are neutral natures weaker?
They provide no 10% stat tradeoff. Whether that is weaker depends on the build, but specialized sets usually prefer a useful boost.
Can a nature increase HP?
No. Nature modifiers apply only to Attack, Defense, Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed.
Do mints change the displayed nature?
Mints change the stat-growth effect used by current games but do not rewrite the original nature label or every nature-dependent detail.
