How the pokémon type coverage calculator works
A Pokémon type coverage calculator checks whether a moveset can hit each defending type for super-effective, neutral, resisted, or zero damage. Select up to four attacking types for one set. The output tests all 18 pure defensive types and reports the best available multiplier, which makes obvious gaps easier to see than checking matchups one at a time.
Coverage is based on move type, not the user’s own type. A Fire-type attacker can choose a Ground move, and that Ground move contributes Ground coverage whether or not it receives STAB. For each defender, the tool evaluates every selected attack and keeps the largest multiplier. Against a dual-type opponent, use the separate type calculator because dual combinations can create 4×, ¼×, and immunity interactions.
The six-slot team fields provide a compact audit of repeated choices. A balanced team does not need every member to hit all 18 types super effectively, but it should avoid relying on one fragile answer. Status moves, setup, recovery, priority, accuracy, and base power are outside this matrix. Four weak low-power attacks do not automatically make a better set than strong neutral STAB.
No single coverage score captures switch patterns. Super-effective breadth is a useful first pass, then read the resisted and immune rows. A move combination with broad neutral coverage may be more consistent than one that collects many 2× labels while leaving a common defender at 0×. Generation-specific abilities can also alter targets that the ordinary chart marks as vulnerable.
Worked example
A four-move type set of Fire, Water, Grass, and Electric hits Grass and Ice with Fire, Fire/Rock/Ground with Water or Grass, and Water/Flying with Electric. Ground is immune to Electric, but Water and Grass still cover it at 2×. The calculator keeps that best 2× rather than averaging in the Electric immunity.
How to read the result
“18 covered” means each pure type has at least one selected move that is super effective. It does not mean every dual type, ability, or actual species is covered, and it does not include move power. Use neutral and resisted counts to judge fallback options, then move the chosen type and power into the damage calculator.
